About the position
The Department of Geological and Mining Engineering and Sciences at Michigan Technological University is seeking a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Geological Engineering. The role focuses on developing a vibrant, externally-funded research program in engineering geology, particularly in geohydrology. The successful candidate will engage in teaching and mentoring students while fostering collaborative research initiatives within the department and the broader university community.
Responsibilities
- Develop a research program in engineering geology for geohydrology.
- Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in geological and mining engineering.
- Mentor student research projects.
- Collaborate with other programs within the university, industry, and local communities.
- Engage in outreach to promote a sense of belonging and inclusivity.
Requirements
- Earned doctorate in Geological Engineering, Hydrological Engineering, Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a closely related discipline by the time of employment.
- Demonstrated interest in developing collaborative research and educational programs.
- Commitment to teaching and mentoring students.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience in groundwater and contaminant hydrology.
- Knowledge of ground and surface water engineering.
- Familiarity with hydrodynamics modeling and subsurface remediation.
- Experience with geohazards research.
