About the position

The Department of Humanities and Arts at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) is seeking a tenure-track assistant professor in Modern US History, starting in July 2025. The role emphasizes teaching, research, and collaboration within an interdisciplinary environment, focusing on post-1877 US history and innovative course development. The successful candidate will engage students through creative teaching methods and contribute to scholarly communities while supporting WPI's commitment to diversity and inclusion.

Responsibilities

  • Teach 6 offerings per academic year, including four courses and two capstone inquiry seminars.
  • Contribute to scholarly communities through publications, presentations, and/or public scholarship.
  • Advise student projects.
  • Participate in service to and initiatives of the Humanities and Arts Department and the university.

Requirements

  • PhD in hand by time of appointment in History, American Studies, or a closely related field.
  • Successful classroom teaching and advising experience at the university level.
  • Record of scholarly inquiry and clear promise of continuing professional growth and engagement.
