About the position

The University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Nursing is seeking to fill an inaugural Excellence in Mentoring position aimed at recruiting outstanding faculty who excel in research and teaching while demonstrating a commitment to mentoring first-generation and underrepresented students. This role involves collaboration with various offices to implement best practices for student mentoring and offers opportunities to network with other faculty across campus. Candidates are encouraged to conduct research in key areas such as educational innovation, health equity, and mental health, while also contributing to teaching and service within the school and university.

Responsibilities

  • Mentor first-generation and underrepresented undergraduate and graduate students to help them achieve academic success.
  • Serve as an expert resource to promote best practices that support student persistence in nursing education.
  • Develop and maintain a collaborative and visible research program, including conceptualizing and conducting research studies.
  • Manage research staff and ensure compliance with research policies.
  • Disseminate research results and seek extramural funding for research programs.
  • Teach courses aligned with expertise at undergraduate and graduate levels, including active learning and interprofessional education.
  • Contribute positively to diversity and inclusive excellence goals within the School of Nursing and the university.
  • Participate in school, university, community, and professional committees and activities.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated excellence or strong potential in research and teaching.
  • Commitment to mentoring first-generation and underrepresented students.
  • Ability to develop a robust research program aligned with national nursing education priorities.
  • Experience in teaching at the undergraduate or graduate level.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in educational innovation and student mentorship.
  • Research experience in aging, maternal/child health, health equity, informatics, mental health, or palliative care.
