About the position

The Baggage Handling System Assistant Project Manager (PM) at Jacobs is responsible for supporting the management of various baggage handling system projects at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). This role involves overseeing project scope, cost, schedule, and operational interfaces, ensuring that construction meets quality standards while adhering to health, safety, and environmental regulations. The Assistant PM will work closely with stakeholders to ensure project goals are met and will assist in the development and implementation of project plans.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in managing the scope, cost, schedule, and operational interfaces of baggage handling system projects.
  • Serve as the primary liaison and airport/owner representative for project direction and management.
  • Develop the RFP and oversee the procurement process for designers and contractors.
  • Ensure project completion within budget and schedule while meeting contractual obligations.
  • Plan and define program goals and devise methods to accomplish them.
  • Supervise and control all technical, fiscal, and administrative functions of the assigned project.
  • Work with team members to develop budgets and schedules for project elements.
  • Oversee the owner's staff managing full project delivery and stakeholder interfaces.
  • Identify and study options for complex design, operational, or constructability issues.
  • Conduct field surveys to capture detailed field conditions for strategic decisions.
  • Maintain documentation on the approved scope of work, including agreements and specifications.
  • Oversee the design process and manage the Design Review Team (DRT) through all design phases.
  • Monitor the permitting process required by the design team and contractor.
  • Remove and mitigate obstacles causing inefficiencies in the construction process.
  • Ensure all work is performed according to the latest plans and specifications.
  • Work with designers and contractors to develop overall construction planning and identify critical milestones.
  • Prepare reports summarizing construction progress for senior management.
  • Review change proposals for compliance with contractual obligations and fair market value.
  • Prepare monthly risk reports for the Program Board.
  • Monitor adherence to Quality Assurance/Quality Control Plan and promote excellence on the project.
  • Review pay applications to ensure compliance with contract requirements.
  • Manage the closeout process to ensure timely completion of documentation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Aviation, Business, Engineering, Construction Management, Planning, or a related technical field.
  • 5 years or more of experience, preferably on airport projects.
  • Experience managing projects valued over $10 million.
  • Familiarity with various delivery methods, including Design-Bid-Build, Design+CMAR, and Design/Build.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Bluebeam.
  • Proven ability to perform in a management capacity.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with thorough knowledge of industry practices and regulations.

  • Ability to work in CAD or REVIT.
