About the position

As the Terminal Operations Director at U.S. Xpress Enterprises, Inc., you will be responsible for leading the profit and loss (P&L) management and overseeing all headcount for an assigned terminal. Your primary focus will be to ensure that the terminal operates efficiently and at optimal capacity for all lines of business and customers associated with the terminal. You will be tasked with providing the highest quality of customer service at the terminal location and ensuring appropriate support and staffing levels are maintained. In this role, you will lead a team to foster a high-performance, driver-centric work environment that encourages the identification and implementation of innovative ideas to enhance profitability and improve operating ratios. You will engage in strategic planning for operations, which includes profit and loss management, asset utilization, and maintaining strong customer relationships. This will involve establishing and executing both short and long-term plans to achieve operational goals and objectives. You will perform financial analyses to stay informed about financial impacts, including employee compensation and equipment costs, while identifying opportunities for improvement and developing cost-effective solutions. Leadership and development of both direct and indirect employees will be a key responsibility, which includes strategic planning for staffing models, performance management, and training implementation. Promoting a safe work environment and ensuring compliance with administrative policies, safety regulations, and DOT regulations will also be critical aspects of your role. Additionally, you will establish standards for measurement and accountability at the terminal level, monitor employee and driver performance through key performance indicators (KPIs), and collaborate with various departments to ensure optimal solutions for all stakeholders. You will also coordinate with recruiting and driver development to meet hiring needs and oversee service center projects to maintain a safe and appealing terminal environment. Instilling a culture of superior service that extends to the customer base and leading teamwork across operational groups will be essential to support company goals.

Responsibilities

  • Instill a culture of superior service within the terminal facilities.
  • Lead teamwork and team building with other operational groups.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience required.
  • 10+ years in Operations including Customer Service, Fleet Management, or Load Planning required.
  • 5+ years general leadership experience required.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
  • Knowledge of DOT hours of service and their application to drivers.
  • Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning and P&L management.
  • Knowledge of electronic equipment and computer hardware/software, including applications.
  • Ability to effectively transfer knowledge to others.
  • Strong active listening and complex problem-solving skills.
  • Time management and active learning abilities.
  • Oral comprehension and expression skills.
  • Problem sensitivity and reasoning abilities.
  • Ability to work in stressful situations and meet deadlines.
  • Understanding of financial reports and data utilization for decision making.
