About the position

The primary purpose of this position is to develop and manage established as well as new customers by selling food and non-food items to achieve sales and profitability goals. The Territory Manager will be the primary owner of customer relationships, engaging customers in value-added activities and leveraging other resources to assist with top penetration opportunities and new account openings. US Foods offers a comprehensive training program for this position, ensuring that the Territory Manager is well-equipped to succeed in their role. Essential duties and responsibilities include fostering customer relationships in a team-based selling model, managing deliveries according to the routing schedule published by the transportation department, and troubleshooting any problems that occur during the order process, such as delivery mis-picks, short loads, or stock-outs. The Territory Manager will also be responsible for communicating and collecting accounts receivable as necessary, working closely with the credit department and clients to ensure all balances due are collected based on approved credit terms. In addition, the Territory Manager will develop new business by identifying prospective customers through market intelligence databases, business directories, and leads from existing clients. Participation in organizations, clubs, trade shows, and conferences will also be part of the role. The Territory Manager must stay informed about market conditions, product innovations, and competitors' products, prices, and sales, sharing this information with customers as part of the value-added services provided. The role requires driving a motor vehicle to visit existing customers and prospects, which may involve lifting and carrying items up to 75 lbs.

Responsibilities

  • Foster the customer relationship in a team-based selling model.

  • Leverage other resources to assist with top penetration opportunities and new accounts opening.
  • Develop new business; identify prospective customers by utilizing market intelligence databases, as well as business directories, following leads from existing clients, participating in organizations and clubs, and attending trade shows and conferences.
  • Know the market conditions, product innovations, and competitors' products, prices, and sales; share information with customers as part of value-added services provided.
  • Drive motor vehicle to existing customers and prospects to ensure product delivery.

Requirements

  • 1+ year of sales experience preferred.
  • Foodservice industry/culinary/restaurant management/hospitality experience preferred.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and presentation abilities.
  • Ability to build internal and external relationships and cold call to develop new business.
  • Exceptional customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Competitive spirit and results-driven mentality.
  • Problem-solving ability, organization, and negotiation skills.
  • Team-up mentality to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Proficient computer skills; Microsoft Office products - Experience using Customer Relationship Management tools preferred (i.e., Salesforce).
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
