About the position

The Operations Manager at Summit Materials is responsible for developing and sustaining business strategies to enhance market share within a designated territory. This role involves managing customer relationships, providing technical assistance, and leading marketing and sales efforts while ensuring compliance with safety standards and company policies. The position requires a proactive approach to account management and a commitment to community engagement and sustainable operations.

Responsibilities

  • Create clear business strategy for each account to increase share and protect existing base.
  • Develop realistic and achievable revenue and product goals.
  • Identify and understand the competitive landscape.
  • Develop plans to maximize account potential and implement district strategies.
  • Provide basic technical assistance to customers regarding materials produced or imported by Summit Cement.
  • Gather territory intelligence on customers and competitors, maintaining a succession pipeline.
  • Develop and maintain customer relationships, providing training and education.
  • Participate actively in trade associations as requested.
  • Develop an effective call planning system for adequate coverage.
  • Manage working capital goals by meeting DSO and SG&A objectives.
  • Utilize Summit's systems for accurate forecasts, pricing, expense, and CRM reporting.
  • Commit to communicating and adhering to safety policies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Sales, Engineering, or a related field preferred.
  • 3-5 years of sales experience in building materials supply or associated industries.
  • Proactive, organized, results-oriented self-starter with high energy and drive.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Strong presentation, training, and computer skills with analytical capabilities.
  • Knowledge of segment-based marketing methods.
  • Entrepreneurial skills and business acumen.
  • Residence within the sales territory required.
  • Ability to travel as needed to meet customers and attend meetings.
