About the position

The Territory Sales Manager at Colonial Life is a pivotal role designed to drive sales growth across a diverse range of accounts, both new and existing. This position requires the manager to reside within the territory they oversee, specifically in the Nashville (Brentwood area) of Tennessee. The primary mission of the Territory Sales Manager is to develop and implement a comprehensive business plan that outlines the marketing, recruiting, and sales strategies necessary to achieve growth objectives. This includes sourcing, selecting, contracting, and developing new sales managers and representatives, ensuring that the right talent is in place to meet the demands of the territory. In addition to recruitment, the Territory Sales Manager is responsible for the induction of new District General Agents (DGAs) in accordance with Colonial Life's onboarding programs. Ongoing coaching and support for District Managers are crucial, as the manager will conduct periodic reviews to help them meet their goals and address any performance shortfalls. Regular communication through conference calls and meetings will be scheduled to foster collaboration and share best practices among managers and representatives. The role also involves creating innovative marketing strategies to enhance sales opportunities for both DGAs and PSMs (Personal Sales Managers). Reporting on activities and results to field management and the Home Office is a key responsibility, ensuring transparency and accountability in achieving sales targets. The Territory Sales Manager is expected to commit to their professional growth by participating in Colonial Life College, taking correspondence courses, and pursuing advanced industry training. Additionally, effective management of the sales office, including staff and budget oversight, is essential to the success of this role. Other duties may be assigned as needed, reflecting the dynamic nature of the position.

Responsibilities

  • Build a business plan that specifies the marketing, recruiting, and sales strategy for the territory.
  • Execute activities that lead to the fulfillment of the business plan, including sourcing and developing Sales Managers.
  • Complete the induction of new District General Agents (DGAs) in accordance with the onboarding programs.
  • Provide ongoing coaching to District Managers to assist them in attaining their goals and correcting shortfalls in results.
  • Schedule regular conference calls and meetings for managers and representatives to participate in.
  • Create marketing approaches to grow the territory and enhance sales opportunities.
  • Report on activities and results to field management and the Home Office as required.
  • Commit to professional growth through attending Colonial Life College and pursuing advanced industry training.
  • Effectively manage the Sales Office, including staff and budget.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated success in a similar role with either Colonial Life or a comparable company required.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills required.
  • College degree preferred.
  • Licensed to solicit insurance or ability to obtain insurance license in states within assigned territory within 45 days.
  • Public speaking skills preferred.
  • Strong planning skills preferred.
  • Network of potential Manager, Rep, and Broker candidates preferred.
  • Ability to travel extensively based on the needs of the territory.
