About the position

The Territory Manager position at US Foods is designed to develop and manage relationships with both established and new customers by selling a variety of food and non-food items. The primary goal is to achieve sales and profitability targets while fostering strong customer relationships. This role requires a proactive approach to customer engagement, leveraging value-added activities to enhance the customer experience. The Territory Manager will be responsible for managing deliveries according to the routing schedule set by the transportation department, troubleshooting any issues that arise during the order process, such as delivery mis-picks or stock-outs. Additionally, the role involves communicating with customers regarding accounts receivable, working closely with the credit department to ensure timely collection of balances due based on approved credit terms. In this position, the Territory Manager will also focus on developing new business opportunities. This includes identifying prospective customers through market intelligence databases, business directories, and leads from existing clients. Participation in organizations, clubs, trade shows, and conferences is also encouraged to expand the customer base. A thorough understanding of market conditions, product innovations, and competitors' offerings is essential, as this information will be shared with customers as part of the value-added services provided by US Foods. The role requires frequent travel to visit existing customers and prospects, ensuring product delivery and maintaining strong relationships in the field. The work environment is primarily field-based, requiring the ability to adapt to variable weather and temperature conditions while engaging with customers.

Responsibilities

  • Foster the customer relationship in a team-based selling model.
  • Manage deliveries to the routing schedule published by the transportation department; troubleshoot any problems that occur during the order process.
  • Communicate and collect accounts receivable as necessary, working with the credit department and client; collect all balances due based on approved credit terms.
  • Leverage other resources to assist with top penetration opportunities and new accounts opening.
  • Develop new business; identify prospective customers by utilizing market intelligence databases, as well as business directories, following leads from existing clients, participating in organizations and clubs, and attending trade shows and conferences.
  • Know the market conditions, product innovations, and competitors' products, prices, and sales; share information with customers as part of value-added services provided.
  • Drive motor vehicle to existing customers, and prospects, to ensure product delivery.

Requirements

  • 1+ year of sales experience preferred.
  • Foodservice industry/culinary/restaurant management/hospitality experience preferred.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and presentation abilities.
  • Ability to build internal and external relationships and cold call to develop new business.
  • Exceptional customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Competitive spirit and results-driven mentality.
  • Problem-solving ability / Organization and negotiation skills.
  • Team up mentality to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Proficient computer skills; Microsoft Office products - Experience using Customer relationship management tools preferred (i.e., Salesforce).
  • HS Diploma or equivalent.
