About the position

BMI is a privately owned Master Distributor of PVF (pipe, valves and fittings) commodities to the North American plumbing, mechanical, industrial, and HVAC markets, established in 1972. The Northeast USA Sales Manager will report directly to the Vice President of Sales and will operate from a home office while traveling extensively within the territory. This role is crucial for driving business growth in the region by leveraging existing customer relationships and actively seeking new business opportunities. The ideal candidate will be an energetic, goal-oriented team player who is looking for a rewarding and challenging opportunity with aspirations for advancement within BMI. The Sales Manager will work closely with the Vice President of Sales to execute sales plans and initiatives, maintain and grow existing accounts, and establish strong business relationships with key stakeholders. The role requires meeting and exceeding annual budget revenue targets, implementing growth and marketing strategies, and proactively identifying potential new customers. The Sales Manager will also be responsible for monitoring market trends and competitive activity, developing pricing strategies, and ensuring customer satisfaction through optimum service and reliability. Participation in promotional and industry-related events is also expected.

Responsibilities

  • Working closely with the Vice President of Sales in executing sales plans and initiatives
  • Extensive overnight travel throughout each region(s) following a scheduled call frequency travel plan
  • Maintaining & growing existing accounts within each region
  • Establishing and maintaining strong business relationships and trust with key stakeholders
  • Meeting and exceeding annual budget revenue targets
  • Establish and nurture excellent collaborative relationships with sales agents, supporting them in their efforts to promote BMI's business
  • Implement growth, marketing and promotional strategies for each territory
  • Proactively identify potential new customers and business opportunities
  • Establish, maintain and review competitive and market-based price structures with all customers
  • Assume responsibility for final pricing quotations
  • Monitor and report on market, product, customer trends and competitive activity
  • Develop launch strategies and execution of new products
  • Team player able to communicate and work closely with internal support staff
  • Meeting and exceeding customer expectations with optimum service and reliability
  • Attend / participate in promotional and industry-related events and organizations

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years of sales or territory management experience
  • Experience distributing commodity (or differentiated commodity) products to businesses
  • Experience / knowledge within the plumbing distribution networks
  • Able to travel regularly into each region on a planned basis to achieve sales targets and goals
  • Track record of success growing a territory profitably in a hands-on fashion
  • Excellent negotiation, customer service and relationship management skills
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, personable nature, flexible and professional, equally effective working with senior executives and field-level employees within the various regions
  • Entrepreneurial spirit, self-starter with strong work ethic and a sense of urgency in meeting our customers' needs
  • Experience working with sales agents is an asset
  • Planning and analytical skills combined with good judgment and instinct
  • Basic computer skills knowledge of Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation required
