About the position

The Territory Sales Manager (TSM) at Northwest Specialty Coating Systems, Inc. is responsible for managing a defined sales region, overseeing and directing sales efforts, representative activities, competitive activities, and customer interactions within that territory. The TSM develops strategic plans aimed at meeting or exceeding budgeted sales expectations while actively monitoring and communicating regional activities to SCS personnel. This role requires a proactive approach to sales management, ensuring that all sales forecasts, budgets, and expenses are accurately tracked and reported. The TSM is tasked with meeting or exceeding sales budgets for their specified geographical location, utilizing effective time management skills to optimize customer interactions and sales opportunities. In addition to managing sales forecasts and budgets, the TSM is responsible for providing timely and accurate reporting on customer and competitive activities. This includes seeking out market opportunities and diligently pursuing them to convert into new sales. The TSM will also develop strategies to improve current products and foster relationships with key decision-makers at customer locations to influence purchasing decisions. A strong partnership with the marketing team is essential to understand customer needs and define the product/service offerings effectively. The TSM mobilizes necessary resources, including materials and support, to maximize the chances of successful new business qualification trials. They execute pricing decisions and negotiations based on guidance from national sales leadership, ensuring that SCS values, products, services, and capabilities are professionally represented. Ethical business practices are paramount, and the TSM must maintain an active knowledge of customers, contacts, and the status of sales cycles. Additionally, adherence to plant and corporate safety policies is required, along with compliance with the Company Vehicle Use Policy. The TSM may also assist in other areas or perform additional duties as required by fluctuating business needs.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a defined sales region and direct sales efforts, representative activities, competitive activities, and customer interactions.
  • Develop strategies to meet or exceed budgeted sales expectations.
  • Monitor and communicate regional activities to SCS personnel.
  • Provide timely and accurate reporting on customer and competitive activities.
  • Seek market opportunities and pursue them to convert into new sales.
  • Develop strategies for the improvement of current products.
  • Build relationships with key decision-makers at customer locations.
  • Collaborate with marketing to understand customer needs and define product/service offerings.
  • Mobilize necessary resources to maximize chances of successful new business qualification trials.
  • Execute pricing decisions and negotiations based on national sales leadership guidance.
  • Represent SCS values, products, services, and capabilities professionally.
  • Maintain active knowledge of customers, contacts, and sales cycle status.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree, preferably in a technical major, with five or more years of sales experience; or 10+ years of experience in medical, electronics, or defense industry with applications development experience without a degree.
  • Valid vehicle driver's license in the U.S.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a valid U.S. passport if international travel is required.
  • Well-developed communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge/experience in new product application development.
  • Ability to manage resources and multiple priorities efficiently.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel®, PowerPoint®, and Word® software.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in the medical, electronics, or defense industry.
