About the position

The Territory Sales Manager for the Southwest region at A. O. Smith Corporation will play a pivotal role in leading sales and new business development efforts within the commercial and industrial market sectors. This position is designed for a candidate who is adept at identifying the best targets for opportunity and employing effective methods to pursue these leads. The successful candidate will focus on establishing new customer relationships, driving sales, and achieving significant revenue growth. This role encompasses involvement from the initial pursuit of business opportunities through to proposal preparation and contract award, ensuring a comprehensive approach to sales management. The candidate will be responsible for the strategic development of the company's near and long-term commercial growth and sales strategy, which includes team development and the ability to identify the best avenues for pursuing new business opportunities. The role requires strong negotiation skills and proven experience in communicating technical, contractual, and financial information effectively to customers. Additionally, the candidate will provide feedback on the best win opportunities, which may involve aligning partnerships or forming teaming agreements. Key responsibilities also include the development and management of proposals, which entails both writing and costing, as well as executing the corporate marketing strategy. The candidate will plan and execute marketing campaigns, events, and conferences, and assist in developing customer partnership programs. Furthermore, the role involves the development of a sales contact database and conducting market segmentation research to inform strategic decisions. Other duties may be assigned as necessary to support the overall objectives of the sales team.

Responsibilities

  • Lead sales and new business development pursuits in the commercial and industrial market areas.
  • Identify best targets of opportunity and employ effective methods of pursuit.
  • Capture new business possibilities in the field.
  • Establish new customers and drive sales and revenue growth.
  • Manage the entire sales process from initial pursuit to contract award.
  • Strategically develop the company's near and long-term commercial growth and sales strategy.
  • Provide feedback on best win opportunities and align partnerships or teaming agreements.
  • Develop and manage proposals, including writing and costing.
  • Execute the corporate marketing strategy and plan marketing campaigns, events, and conferences.
  • Assist in the development of customer partnership programs.
  • Conduct market/market segmentation research.
  • Develop a sales contact database.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • 6-7 years of Supervisory/Leadership experience.
  • Master's degree (MBA or technical field) preferred.
  • Experience in sales or new business development with a focus on engineering services, robotics, automation, manufacturing, and operations.
  • Experience implementing professional service business models in hi-tech industries.
  • Strong skills in business development, account management, and sales process.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Products is required; experience in Salesforce CRM is a plus.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Management.
  • Minimum of 5 years related work experience.
