About the position

The Territory Sales Manager position is a full-time role responsible for the sale, rental, or leasing of all new and used John Deere and "all-makes" equipment, parts, and services. The primary focus of this role is to meet customer needs and grow market share while maintaining acceptable levels of gross profit and achieving sales unit targets. The successful candidate will be expected to manage designated territories and customer relationships effectively, ensuring a strong presence in equipment purchases and maximizing rental conversions. This position requires a proactive approach to customer engagement, including providing on-site expertise for demonstrations, machine inspections, and technical support. Additionally, the Territory Sales Manager will be responsible for selling parts and services to enhance the after-sale value of products, ensuring repeat business and customer loyalty. The role involves quoting and negotiating prices and credit terms, preparing contracts, and closing orders. The Territory Sales Manager will also manage sales-related expenses and provide regular status reports to the sales manager regarding the achievement of goals and objectives. This position requires a high level of organization and communication skills, as well as the ability to maintain accurate call logs, prospect lists, and mileage information. The successful candidate will attend training and sales meetings to stay current with new equipment and special deals, and will provide feedback to other departments as necessary. Overall, this role is crucial for driving sales growth and maintaining strong customer relationships in the competitive heavy equipment market.

Responsibilities

  • Sells, rents, and leases new and used John Deere and 'all-makes' equipment, parts, and service.
  • Quotes and negotiates prices and credit terms, prepares contracts, and records and closes orders.
  • Manages and maximizes rental conversions.
  • Grows and develops customer relationships and loyalty to increase market share.
  • Manages and controls sales-related expenses.
  • Meets or exceeds company targets for units, dollars, and gross profit.
  • Manages designated territories and customers to maximize presence on equipment purchases.
  • Manages market awareness and provides lost sales reports.
  • Works with customers and potential customers to provide solutions to their equipment needs.
  • Provides on-site expertise for demonstrations, machine inspections, and technical support.
  • Sells parts or service to enhance the after-sale value of products and ensures return business.
  • Sells allied support services such as PM's, undercarriage repair and replacement, and on-site fueling.
  • Keeps accurate and up-to-date call logs, prospect lists, and mileage information within ACT!
  • Provides status reports to the sales manager as to achievement of goals and objectives.
  • Attends training and sales meetings as required to stay current with new equipment and special deals.
  • Provides feedback to other departments.
  • Maintains a contact management type database for designated territory.
  • Makes frequent opportunity calls and generates new customers.

Requirements

  • College degree preferred; heavy equipment sales experience may be substituted or combined with education.
  • Highly developed organization and communication skills.
  • Broad-based computer skills.
  • Ability to read and analyze technical procedures or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of customers, coworkers, and the general public.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, and percentages.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license.
