About the position

GovCIO is currently hiring for a Test Engineer to support the VRE PSES contract. The ideal candidate will provide testing support utilizing various tools to ensure that a quality product is delivered to our VA customer. This position is full-time and fully remote, allowing for flexibility while maintaining a focus on delivering high-quality results. The Test Engineer will be responsible for designing, developing, and implementing testing methods and equipment to ensure that the product meets specifications. This includes planning and arranging the labor, schedules, and equipment required for testing and evaluating the product. The role involves designing test cases for test plans and creating test scenarios in which tests are carried out. The Test Engineer will compile data, define required changes, and report defects and problems that occur during the testing process. They will also implement and participate in product walkthroughs, with automated testing being utilized at the hiring manager's discretion. The position requires close consultation with the development and/or requirements team to coordinate and test applications effectively. In addition to performing analysis, diagnostics, and preliminary evaluations of products, the Test Engineer will develop testing procedures and create comprehensive test plans, scripts, scenarios, functional tests, regression tests, and deployment tests. They will ensure that all test activities follow established processes and produce reports on each test activity while tracking test metrics. Continuous improvement of the testing process will be monitored through failure analysis, throughput analysis, and yield analysis, with periodic reporting to management. The role also includes manual and automated testing of integrations, interfaces, data transfers, and APIs, as well as testing web services using tools like Ready API, Postman, Wave, and AMP. The Test Engineer will be involved in the end-to-end software testing life cycle, including defect logging and verification of closure of defects, as well as root cause analysis. They will conduct functional testing, database testing using SQL queries, and maintain requirements traceability matrices. Proactive communication and coordination with various internal and external project stakeholders are essential for success in this role.

Responsibilities

  • Designs, develops, and implements testing methods and equipment to ensure that the product will perform to specifications.
  • Plans and arranges the labor, schedules, and equipment required for testing and evaluating the product.
  • Designs test cases for test plans and creates test scenarios in which tests are carried out.
  • Compiles data, defines required changes and reports defects and problems that occurred during the test process.
  • Implements and participates in the walkthrough of the product.
  • Consults with the development and/or requirements team to coordinate and test applications.
  • Performs analysis, diagnostics, and preliminary evaluations of products.
  • Develops testing procedures.
  • Develops test plans, scripts, scenarios, functional tests, regression tests, and deployment tests.
  • Implements the testing processes and ensures all test activities follow those processes.
  • Produces reports on each test activity and tracks test metrics.
  • Monitors for continual test process improvement through failure analysis, throughput analysis, yield analysis, and report to management periodically.
  • Conducts manual and automated testing of integrations, interfaces, data transfers, APIs.
  • Tests Web Services using tools like Ready API, Postman, Wave, AMP, etc.
  • Manages the End-to-End Software Testing Life Cycle from testing, defect logging and verification of closure of defects, Root Cause Analysis.
  • Conducts Functional Testing (System, Regression, and User Acceptance).
  • Performs Database Testing using SQL queries, simple scripts.
  • Maintains a thorough understanding of integration requirements and mapping to user stories, acceptance criteria, and test cases.
  • Uses Jira for maintaining sprint test artifacts and X-RAY for Test execution.
  • Analyzes Test results, manages defects and reporting, maintaining Requirements Traceability Matrix (RTM).
  • Works with AWS Cloud, Exposure to CI/CD tools like Jenkins, Maven, Nexus, GitHub, etc.
  • Proactively communicates and coordinates with various internal and external project stakeholders.
  • Demonstrates analytical and investigation skills, willingness to learn and ability to troubleshoot.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree with 5 - 8 years of experience (or commensurate experience).
  • Experience in Manual, Integration, Functional and Automated Testing.
  • Extensive experience with Jira for building test plans, issues, executions, and creating report outputs.

Nice-to-haves

  • Extensive Integration & Interface Testing experience.
  • Exposure to Corporate Database, MPI, VA Profile Database, existing API services in VA network, writing simple Oracle scripts for testing.
  • Experience with VA and/or other Federal Agencies.
  • Demonstrated experience in a remote work environment.
  • Well versed in Agile Methodology, the VA Veteran-Focused Integration Process (VIP) project management methodology.
