About the position

The Test Engineer position at Chart Industries focuses on the testing of liquid hydrogen processing and handling equipment. This role involves collaborating with engineers and designers from various Chart locations to gather necessary information and hardware for creating comprehensive test plans. The engineer will be responsible for building test setups, integrating test hardware, connecting data acquisition systems, running tests, processing the collected data, and sharing the results with relevant stakeholders. Effective communication is crucial in this role, as the engineer will need to convey findings and coordinate activities with team members across different locations. The ability to navigate ambiguity and make independent decisions is also essential for success in this position. On a day-to-day basis, the Test Engineer will set up and run tests, making adjustments as necessary to ensure accurate results. They will create detailed reports and communicate the outcomes of tests to colleagues at various Chart locations. Coordination with stakeholders and other test facility personnel is a key aspect of the role, ensuring that testing activities align with project goals. The engineer will utilize complex test sample equipment, requiring a strong technical background and hands-on experience in the field. The ideal candidate will have a solid foundation in engineering principles, particularly in mechanical or automotive engineering, and will be expected to demonstrate proficiency in instrumentation, data acquisition, and controls automation. A background in cryogenic systems and experience with hydrogen will be advantageous, as will familiarity with industrial codes and engineering practices relevant to the oil and gas industry.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and run tests; make adjustments as needed to achieve accurate results.

Requirements

  • 5 years of experience in engineering, design, fabrication, testing, and commissioning of mechanical equipment used in product development.
  • Preferred experience in cryogenic pressure vessels or the process industry.
  • Experience with liquid or gaseous hydrogen is preferred.
  • Hands-on technical work experience, partnering with field operation and production staff.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Highly motivated self-starter and team player.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan and manage multiple tasks.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office, specifically Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with instrumentation, data acquisition, PLC, SCADA, and controls automation.
  • Experience with design of experiments and data acquisition.
  • Working knowledge of industrial codes and common engineering practices used within the oil and gas industry, such as ASME B31.3, ASME Section VIII Division 1, NFPA 52/59A/55/2.
