About the position

The Test Engineer position at the Texas Workforce Commission involves performing advanced computer systems analysis work, focusing on test planning, design, and execution. This role is crucial for ensuring that applications meet business requirements and function as intended. The position allows for telecommuting from anywhere in Texas and emphasizes collaboration, problem-solving, and effective communication within the Quality Assurance team.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate with designers, developers, or users to clarify system requirements and develop functional design specifications.
  • Develop comprehensive test plans and coordinate test activities to ensure program changes meet business requirements.
  • Prepare charts, diagrams, and tables depicting current and proposed systems.
  • Review requirements to ensure they can be tested or validated.
  • Develop test cases, set up test data, create and execute automated scripts, and document results.
  • Provide complete test kits to end users and assist with system demonstrations.
  • Perform System Testing and User Acceptance Testing as assigned.
  • Train UAT testers and conduct presentations or system demonstrations.
  • Report work progress, risks, and issues to management and leadership.
  • Assist in diagnosing problems with automated applications and write specifications for software corrections.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant laws, rules, policies, and procedures.
  • Contribute to teamwork and promote an image of IT excellence.

Requirements

  • Experience as a systems analyst or a bachelor's degree in a technical or analytical field with three years of experience in test script design and execution.
  • Experience with automated testing tools.
  • Skills in developing creative solutions to complex problems.
  • Knowledge of SDLC principles and practices (agile, waterfall).
  • Proactive and detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Experience with Microsoft Windows and Office products, including Outlook, Word, Excel, Visio, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Experience with TWC technology platforms and at least one TWC Division.
