About the position

Our client in Auburn Hills, MI is seeking a Test Engineer for a contract position focused on emissions and fuel economy testing. The successful candidate will work as part of a collaborative team that includes engineers, union technicians, and mechanics. The primary responsibility will be to troubleshoot and resolve issues related to test equipment across multiple emissions testing facilities, including 8 Emissions Chassis Dynamometer test cells and 5 SHEDs. This role requires a hands-on approach to ensure the functionality and efficiency of testing equipment, which is critical for meeting regulatory and internal standards. The Test Engineer will be involved in quality control and calibration activities, ensuring that all equipment meets the necessary regulatory requirements. This includes meticulous tracking and documentation of testing processes and results. The engineer will also assist in the integration of new test cell equipment to support evolving regulatory requirements and advancements in powertrain testing. Continuous improvement of test cell efficiencies and throughput will be a key focus, alongside analyzing test results to validate compliance with both regulatory and internal criteria. The role demands flexibility, as the engineer must be willing to work overtime and weekends as needed to meet project deadlines and operational demands. The Test Engineer will also be responsible for maintaining ISO 17025 accreditation in the emissions lab, which involves updating hardware documents and ensuring timely calibration of equipment. Regular meetings will be held to address any issues that arise, and preventative maintenance tests will be conducted to ensure compliance with EPA and CARB regulations. Additionally, the engineer will play a crucial role in upgrading lab equipment to accommodate the testing needs of electric vehicles and related regulations.
