About the position

The Test Engineer position in Palmdale, CA involves supporting the stand-up of a complex program by identifying operational testing needs and executing strategic planning initiatives to create a safe and efficient shop floor testing environment. The role requires collaboration with various engineering disciplines and production operations to troubleshoot vehicle test issues and implement process improvements.

Responsibilities

  • Support the stand-up of a complex program.
  • Identify operational testing needs and execute strategic planning initiatives for creating a safe and efficient shop floor testing environment.
  • Work in parallel with design engineering, quality engineering, manufacturing engineering, environmental safety & health, and production operations.
  • Create manufacturing test engineering statement of work contractual requirements.
  • Interface with shop floor management and personnel to troubleshoot and resolve vehicle test issues.
  • Implement process improvements to increase efficiency.
  • Create shop aid tooling and analyze shop floor performance.
  • Support the quality organization in root cause analysis and corrective action activities for process-related defects.

Requirements

  • Testing and troubleshooting of aircraft sub-systems such as fuel systems, pumps, valves, actuators, hydraulics, and electrical systems.
  • Acting as Test Conductor/Director for air vehicle testing.
  • Authoring air vehicle system test procedures and plans.
  • Identification and operation of specialized test equipment.
  • Wire harness and interconnect installation/integration.
  • Aircraft sub-systems assembly and integration.
  • Work instruction authoring and work planning.
  • Hands-on production floor support with direct ownership of specific operations.
  • Hands-on experience with Ground Support Equipment (GSE) such as hydraulic mules and power carts.
  • Knowledge of common airworthiness, quality, and manufacturing requirements for air vehicle validation.
  • Ability to develop testing setups with little direction.

  • Experience and knowledge of typical Flight Line operations and ground support activities.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal and collaboration skills in a team environment.
  • Ability to effectively present technical information to non-technical audiences.
  • Development/prototype/first article program support.
  • Jet engine integration and service familiarity.
  • Ability to determine required regression testing during air vehicle rework or maintenance.
  • Conducting safety briefs/huddles prior to testing for team safety and efficiency.
  • Understanding aircraft system operation to an IPT level for all air vehicle systems.
  • Experience testing prototype air vehicles.
  • Strong knowledge of all phases of manufacturing.
  • Previous role as a Manufacturing Engineer.
  • Experience with 3DX and Catia V5 software.
  • STEM type degree.
