About the position

The Test Engineering Technician at The Toro Company plays a crucial role in ensuring that products meet safety standards, performance requirements, and durability parameters. This position involves visually inspecting, evaluating, and operating various units, as well as gathering data and designing test equipment. The technician will summarize and report findings to Test Engineers, contributing to the overall quality and compliance of Toro's product lines. This is an entry to mid-level opportunity that offers exposure to a variety of product lines in a hands-on environment, making it ideal for individuals looking to grow their careers in engineering and testing. The role requires the technician to operate and evaluate Toro prototype and production units in both field and laboratory conditions, adhering to established safety and performance standards. Responsibilities include gathering pertinent data on product performance, maintaining daily logs on test projects, and performing maintenance on test units. The technician may also supervise temporary employees and assist engineering staff in the design and development of specialized test fixtures. Some travel may be required to local field test sites for data acquisition or performance evaluations. This position is 100% on-site at the Bloomington, MN location, and remote or hybrid work options are not available. The Toro Company does not offer VISA immigration sponsorship for this role, either now or in the future. Candidates will be evaluated for the appropriate technician level based on their education and experience, with opportunities for growth within the company.

Responsibilities

  • Operate and evaluate Toro prototype and production units in field and laboratory conditions according to safety, durability, and performance standards.
  • Gather data on the performance of Toro products and prototypes under prescribed conditions using data acquisition systems such as LabVIEW and SoMat.
  • Maintain daily logs on all test projects and write periodic, interim, and final data summaries as required.
  • Perform maintenance on test units and record findings for reliability and maintainability summaries.
  • Conduct teardown and inspection of test units at intervals or at the conclusion of tests.
  • Direct and supervise temporary employees in conducting field test programs during summer and winter.
  • Assist department engineering staff in the design, construction, and development of specialized test fixturing and test stands.
  • Provide feedback to Test Technician Team Lead on facility needs and interface with various engineering and management personnel.

Requirements

  • Entry level (zero to ten) experience in a related technical role.
  • 4-year degree in Engineering, Automotive, or Agricultural Technology, or ASE Certifications preferred.
  • Experience with data acquisition devices such as LabVIEW and SoMat is highly desirable.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, etc.) is required.
  • Excellent communication skills are necessary.
  • Demonstrated troubleshooting capability is essential.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment supporting cross-functional staff members.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with data acquisition devices such as LabVIEW and SoMat is highly desirable.
  • ASE Certifications are preferred.
