About the position

VTG is seeking a Test & Evaluation Engineer in Washington, DC (near Navy Yard) to provide Engineering Support Services to Engineers and Subject Matter Experts in support of the Conventional Prompt Strike (CPS) Program under the Department of Navy. This position is hybrid, requiring the candidate to work both onsite and remotely each week. The candidate will support multiple engineering disciplines, including but not limited to Mechanical, Electrical, Systems, Information Systems, Navigation, Flight Software, Industrial, Re-entry hardware, and Flight Termination Systems. The role involves providing strategic support to the engineering team and leadership, ensuring that all engineering efforts align with program objectives. In this role, the Test & Evaluation Engineer will be responsible for providing technical support for hardware testing, software testing, modeling and simulation, and flight-testing. The engineer will assist in the development of the Test and Evaluation Master Plan (TEMP) and equivalent documents, including modeling and simulation verification, validation and accreditation plans, systems requirements verification plans, safety packages, and test planning briefing packages. The engineer will support the entire test cycle, which includes test planning, security, execution, analysis, and reporting to ensure that tests are conducted effectively. The engineer will also support component testing for flight systems, platform systems, and integration testing to ensure that components work together for the weapon system. This includes subsystem and system-level testing, as well as the development and execution of capability validation plans, reporting on the program's phase of development and status towards verifying achievement of Weapon System Requirements. Additionally, the engineer will provide test engineering services to assist in the planning and execution of government test events, support the oversight of contractor developmental testing, and conduct assessments and provide recommendations regarding test and modeling activities. This support requires access to Threat and Engineering data classified up to TS/SCI. The engineer will prepare studies, plans, and analyses in support of government test and engineering efforts and deliver monthly reports, including scientific and technical reports, technical reports for study services, and revisions to existing government documents.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support for hardware testing, software testing, modeling and simulation, and flight-testing.
  • Assist in the development of the Test and Evaluation Master Plan (TEMP) and equivalent documents.
  • Support modeling and simulation verification, validation and accreditation plans, and systems requirements verification plans.
  • Develop safety packages and test planning briefing packages.
  • Support the entire test cycle from test planning, security, execution, analysis, and reporting.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree in a relevant field and at least 5 years of professional engineering experience, OR a master's degree in a relevant field and at least 2 years of professional experience, OR a High School Diploma and at least 8 years of demonstrated experience in specific task area.
  • Active Secret level clearance and ability to sustain a Top Secret with SCI access.
  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, and Word).
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD for engineering designs and architecture.
  • Experience with Computational Fluid Dynamics, Finite Element Analysis, Fluid Structure Interaction, Flight dynamics and trajectory calculations, Ballistics, Penetration mechanics, Combustion, and Thermodynamics.

Nice-to-haves

  • Understanding of Electrical and Mechanical Design, Navigation, Guidance, and Control, Telemetry and Instrumentation, Flight Software, Re-entry Hardware, and Flight Termination Systems.
  • Experience with Requirement Definition, Allocation, and Verification, Mechanical, Electrical, and Software Interfaces.
  • Navy weapons and engineering experience.
