About the position

The Manager of Research Projects for the Trachoma Control Program (TCP) at The Carter Center is responsible for overseeing the coordination and management of the TCP research portfolio. This role involves supporting the Sr. Associate Director (SAD) - Research, managing complex research projects, and ensuring alignment with the TCP Research Strategy. The position requires collaboration with Principal Investigators and field teams to implement studies, analyze data, and disseminate results, all while maintaining ethical compliance and contributing to the overall goals of the Trachoma Research Strategy.

Responsibilities

  • Manage complex research projects to advance the TCP Research Strategy, overseeing day-to-day activities of ongoing studies and the creation and execution of new studies.
  • Responsible for all aspects of study implementation, including conceptualization, budgeting, design, monitoring, and result dissemination, ensuring ethical compliance.
  • Collaborate with the SAD - Research and Data Analysts to develop study instruments, procedures, and timelines.
  • Contribute to research protocol development, modify methodologies or tools as needed, and coordinate field support for electronic data collection.
  • Clean and analyze data, resolve discrepancies with field teams, and oversee study budget and procurement with Overseas Operations.
  • Facilitate training for field teams, ensure accurate data documentation, and develop performance and treatment reports for management and regulatory agencies.
  • Coordinate and conduct special meetings and presentations to highlight progress made on the thematic areas of the research strategic agenda and the annual work plan.
  • Collaborate on reports and papers, and assist in the preparation of tables and graphs for publication and presentation.
  • Manage ethical review processes, ensure IRB compliance, and provide leadership, mentorship, and supervision to staff, students, and interns.
  • Maintain professional growth and development by identifying educational/training programs and resources.

Requirements

  • A master's degree in public health, epidemiology, biostatistics, sociology, psychology, or a related discipline.
  • Two years of professional level research experience, or an equivalent combination of experience, education, and training.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Proven experience in epidemiology and study designs.
  • An analytical mindset with problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, as well as an understanding of data administration and management functions.
  • Proficient in MS Office (Excel, Access, Word, PowerPoint, etc.).
  • Experience living and working in Africa.
  • Experience with STATA, SAS, R, and other analysis software, as well as experience with ArcGIS.
