About the position

The Theatre Production Manager at the Boston Center for the Arts (BCA) is responsible for overseeing the physical operations of various theatre and rehearsal spaces. This role involves managing theatre operations, coordinating with theatre renters, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations. The position requires collaboration with the Theatre Rental Manager and Operations Department to develop policies and procedures, as well as long-term planning for the theatre team.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee theatre operations and resource maintenance.
  • Delegate tasks and respond to emergencies.
  • Manage risk and coordinate with theatre renters.
  • Conduct production site visits and assessments.
  • Maintain inventories and order specialized supplies.
  • Maintain floor plans, instruction manuals, and protocols for operations.
  • Assess and approve technical and physical elements for productions.
  • Support BCA produced events and programs.
  • Schedule and conduct theatre renter check-ins and production walk-throughs.
  • Supervise part-time technical assistance staff and assign work.
  • Operate and maintain technical assets of theatre venues.
  • Monitor and arrange for repair and maintenance of equipment.
  • Serve as an on-call representative for theatre users.
  • Provide production support and maintenance in all BCA spaces.
  • Maintain clean, organized, and safe operation of venues.

Requirements

  • 3-5 years in a Production Management role.
  • Proven effectiveness as a manager of staff.
  • Knowledge of professional development and equity practices.
  • Familiarity with construction practices and laws for public buildings.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Experience in a collaborative environment.
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office and CAD software.
  • Experience in creating and executing facilities management plans.
  • Ability to deal with technical issues in theatre production.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with stage management and computerized lighting systems.
  • Knowledge of safety precautions and procedures in theatre.
