About the position

Utah Valley University is seeking a highly skilled Therapist IV-Crisis Specialist to join the Student Health Services team. This position is crucial for providing immediate and expert crisis intervention services under the direction of the Director of Crisis Services. The Therapist IV will be responsible for offering rapid, short-term responses to students experiencing mental, physical, emotional, or behavioral distress. Utilizing advanced clinical expertise and certifications in crisis response, psychological first aid, and trauma-informed care, the specialist will deliver best practices to ensure the well-being of those in need. This role also involves contributing to the university's crisis response efforts by serving on committees, task forces, and potentially overseeing grant-funded projects as a grant project leader. The position is pivotal in fostering a safe and supportive environment for the UVU community. The responsibilities of the Therapist IV include providing individual crisis support through intake, triage, psychological first aid, suicide assessments, and crisis response and safety planning. The specialist will evaluate high-risk situations, initiate welfare checks through police as needed, and provide information and connections to ongoing support resources. Additionally, the role encompasses group and campus crisis support, offering group crisis response and outreach in response to critical incidents, as well as training, education, and resources to individuals and groups throughout UVU. The specialist will also provide consultation services to teammates and leaders within the UVU community, serving as a liaison between organizations on campus and in the community. Other duties may include providing clinical supervision and performing additional job-related tasks as assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Provides intake, triage, psychological first aid, suicide assessments, and crisis response and safety planning.
  • Evaluates for high risk, potential violence, and suicide; initiates and coordinates welfare checks through the police as needed.
  • Provides information and connection to resources for ongoing support.
  • Delivers group crisis response, including psychological first aid, and outreach in response to critical incidents.
  • Provides training, education, and resources to individuals and groups throughout UVU as a proactive and preventative measure.
  • Maintains professional licensure and provides consultation services to teammates and leaders throughout the UVU community.
  • Serves on committees and task forces representing Crisis Services and may oversee grant-funded projects as a project leader.
  • Collects data, prepares reports, and oversees projects/events as assigned.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited institution with a Masters or Doctorate in a Mental Health field (e.g., Psychology, Social Work, Marriage & Family Therapy, or Clinical Counseling).
  • A minimum of five years of full-time experience in a clinical setting as a fully licensed clinician.
  • Direct experience and expertise in providing crisis intervention, suicide risk assessments, and trauma-informed care.
  • Meets the DOPL criteria to provide clinical supervision.
  • Maintains current licensure as a Mental Health Clinician in the selected field of mental health specialty under licensure requirements and laws set by the DOPL and the State of Utah.

Nice-to-haves

  • Currently certified in the State of Utah as a Designated Examiner or able to sit for the exam/certification.
