About the position

The Therapist is responsible for developing, coordinating, and facilitating direct social services to patients and their families in an acute care setting, which includes partial hospitalization and intensive outpatient services. This role involves providing therapeutic treatment, crisis intervention, and case management while ensuring patient safety and adherence to clinical guidelines.

Responsibilities

  • Provide social services to patients and their families/significant others.
  • Deliver therapeutic treatment services to individuals, groups, families, and/or significant others.
  • Conduct individual treatment sessions with patients as needed based on program and patient requirements.
  • Provide crisis intervention services and assess for safety daily.
  • Interact with patients, family members, and significant others with respect and dignity.
  • Participate in psychoeducational support sessions with patients and families.
  • Provide case management and therapeutic interventions to all assigned patients.
  • Serve as a patient advocate for grievances, following system policies and procedures.
  • Manage patient/family expectations regarding services provided.
  • Initiate and maintain contact with referring providers, schools, and care teams for patients.
  • Implement goals and interventions as specified in the Care Plan, ensuring they are SMART.
  • Document progress according to the treatment plan and complete discharge documentation on time.
  • Identify and document the patient's presenting problem, progress, current status, and treatment recommendations.
  • Contact outpatient providers and other stakeholders to discuss aftercare for proper handoff.
  • Report and document suspected cases of abuse or neglect according to state law and system policy.
  • Provide leadership and guidance in implementing clinical interventions and evaluate interdisciplinary outcomes.
  • Assist in developing and evaluating treatment needs and participate in interdisciplinary staffing for treatment planning.
  • Ensure patient safety and communicate any safety concerns to the treatment team.
  • Document safety incidents and adhere to all system guidelines for safety.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in Social Work or related field from an accredited school.
  • Professional Counseling or Family Therapy experience in healthcare and psychiatric settings preferred.
  • In-training as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC-IT), Marriage and Family Therapist Training License (MFT-TL), or equivalent in state practicing.
  • A SAC-IT, SAC, or CSAC required in Wisconsin.
  • Substance abuse specialty authorization applicable to the state hired in is required.
  • Working knowledge of therapeutic interventions and techniques for all age groups.
  • Understanding of human growth and behavior dynamics.
  • American Red Cross Professional Rescue certification required within 30 days of hire, with bi-annual re-certification.
  • Formal training in management of aggressive patients (NCI) required within 60 days of hire, with annual re-certification.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in cognitive behavioral therapies.
  • Familiarity with interdisciplinary treatment planning.
