About the position

NVIDIA is seeking a highly motivated Thermal Engineer for its Advanced Research Group to develop advanced thermal management and packaging solutions for future accelerated computing server products. This role involves leading thermal design and analysis, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and conducting thermal simulations to optimize thermal behavior in innovative computing solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the thermal design and analysis for multiple advanced thermal solutions involving GPUs, servers, network switches, and related projects.
  • Collaborate with Product Design/Engineering and Thermal Engineering teams to align thermal solutions with future product directions.
  • Work with Mechanical/Thermal Engineers, Electrical Engineers, and Product Designers to integrate thermal solutions into overall product design.
  • Conduct thermal simulations and analyses using industry-standard software tools to predict and optimize thermal behavior.
  • Design experiments, develop test procedures, and direct Test Technicians in testing thermal solutions.
  • Compare experimental results to predicted results and adjust models as needed.
  • Research methods to improve cooling systems for thermal performance and cost efficiency.
  • Own the thermal solution roadmap.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science or Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering or closely related field.
  • 5+ years of relevant experience in the IT/electronics industry.
  • Ability to design and build experimental set-ups for thermal solutions.
  • Experience with instrumentation, data acquisition systems, and power delivery systems.
  • Deep understanding of heat transfer and fluid mechanics.
  • Ability to conduct complex thermal analyses using tools like IcePak, FloTHERM, and Fluent.
  • Experience with CAD software such as Creo or SolidWorks.
  • Capable of leading multiple development efforts simultaneously.
  • Excellent presentation skills for communicating results to engineering disciplines.
  • Desire to work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with thermal management of electronics including servers and switches.
  • Background with thermal management of racks, rows of racks, and data centers.
