About the position

Ford Motor Company is seeking an experienced Thermal Systems Integration Engineer specializing in Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) systems. This role is pivotal in the development of next-generation integrated thermal systems that not only manage cabin climate but also address the thermal needs of powertrain systems, including batteries and power electronics. As part of the Electric Vehicle Digital Design (EVDD) team, you will be at the forefront of innovation, working on technologies that will shape the future of electric vehicles. Your responsibilities will include ensuring that HVAC hardware and firmware are designed, implemented, and tested to meet Ford's rigorous standards for safety and customer experience. In this role, you will lead the integration of HVAC subsystems by developing and executing integration test plans for hardware components and firmware features. You will work cross-functionally with mechanical, electrical, software, and system architecture teams, collaborating with design and development engineers to ensure a cohesive system design. Your expertise will be crucial in defining and testing software requirements for HVAC components and customer features, as well as developing validation strategies to ensure comprehensive test coverage. You will also be responsible for creating prototype test setups to integrate new subsystems with both simulated and actual vehicle components. A significant part of your role will involve digging into data and source code to identify and debug issues at both the component and system levels, proposing and leading the implementation of robust solutions. Additionally, you will manage the integration of initial prototype systems, including the bring-up, debugging, and engineering testing of alpha- and beta-phase prototype vehicles.

Responsibilities

  • Lead HVAC sub system integration by developing, executing, and reporting on integration test plans for hardware components and firmware features.
  • Work cross-functionally among mechanical, electrical, software and system architecture aspects and collaborate with design and development engineers across the organization.
  • Define and test software requirements for HVAC components, system functions, and customer features.
  • Develop validation strategies for these features, working with validation teams to ensure test coverage.
  • Develop prototype test setups to integrate new subsystems with simulated and actual vehicle components.
  • Identify and debug issues at the component and system levels, proposing and leading implementation of robust solutions.
  • Lead and manage integration of initial prototype systems including bring-up, debug, and engineering test of alpha- and beta-phase prototype vehicles.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's / Master's degree in Mechatronics, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering, or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated ability to keep multiple projects moving forwards in parallel.
  • Thorough understanding of mechanical and electrical fundamentals and ability to apply them to automotive concepts.
  • Experience with electrical / electro-mechanical devices involving networked micro controllers and embedded software.
  • Proven debugging and diagnostic skills in electrical, mechanical, and software domains.
  • Strong comprehension of embedded software development languages (C/C++).

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Python.
  • Experience with CAN / LIN / Ethernet & associated software tools.
