About the position

The Leadership Management Trainee Operations (LMT-O) Program at CPKC is a six-month, paid training initiative aimed at developing future leaders in the railway industry. Participants will gain essential leadership skills and industry knowledge necessary for the role of Assistant Trainmaster (ATM). The program includes a combination of classroom instruction, online training, workshops, and hands-on experience, culminating in a promotion to ATM upon successful completion.

Responsibilities

  • Quickly learn and utilize railroad operating systems and local operating plans to manage productivity within operations teams.
  • Complete and pass management train conductor certification to be deployed as required by the business.
  • Lead Trains and Engines operating employees, ensuring compliance with safety rules and implementing preventative measures.
  • Model effective leadership by driving results, leading others, and making decisions aligned with CPKC's values.
  • Prioritize work effectively and make decisions that reflect CPKC's core principles.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED is required; post-secondary education is preferred.
  • 2 years of previous supervisory experience in logistics or an operational environment is preferred.
  • Valid driver's license and US passport required.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding work and travel for up to 6 months during initial training.
  • Effective time management and strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Experience in a safety-critical role within the railway or logistics industry.
  • Demonstrated flexibility and adaptability to changing work situations.
