About the position

The Thoracic Surgery position at Valley Health System in Winchester, Virginia, offers a unique opportunity to treat a diverse range of thoracic and esophageal diseases within the picturesque Shenandoah Valley. The selected candidate will be affiliated with the Cancer Center, actively participating in established Tumor Boards and clinical trials, while engaging in a variety of educational activities. This role encompasses all aspects of thoracic surgery, excluding lung transplantation, allowing the surgeon to step into a turn-key practice supported by an established referral base. The practice is complemented by a dedicated Thoracic Surgeon, Advanced Practice Providers (APPs), and other surgical specialists, all within a hospital-employed setting that promotes a high quality work-life balance. The practice highlights include the treatment of both benign and malignant thoracic and esophageal diseases, supported by a large network of providers that ensures a strong referral base. The facility boasts an STS 2-Star lobectomy lung program and a 2-Star esophageal program, along with a 48-bed ICU that features round-the-clock intensivist coverage. The CoC-accredited Cancer Center provides opportunities for collaboration with a team of eight Medical Oncologists, two Radiation Oncologists, and two Surgical Oncologists. Additionally, the engaged pulmonology practice includes five pulmonologists, and the facility is equipped with advanced technologies such as EBUS, Ion Robotic bronchoscopy, and interventional procedural expertise. The established da Vinci Xi robotic surgery program further enhances the surgical capabilities available to the candidate. The position also presents an opportunity for rapid practice growth, supported by a large system-wide primary care physician and oncology referral base, a lung nodule clinic, and a low-dose CT screening program. Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Board certification in Thoracic Surgery.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
