About the position

The Threat Assessment and Emergency Management Coordinator (TAEMC) at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) is responsible for managing violence prevention and threat management programs. This includes active coordination and participation in institutional Student Behavioral Intervention Teams (BIT), monitoring individuals of concern, and assessing potential threats. The TAEMC will assist in triaging, investigating, and coordinating assigned threat cases, ensuring that all stakeholders are informed about risks and available options. The role also involves developing safety and contingency plans, providing training programs, and being available for on-call duties after hours and on weekends. The TAEMC will collaborate with Southern Command institutions to enhance emergency preparedness and response initiatives, and will play a vital role in the Emergency Operations Center (EOC). This position requires a subject matter expert in threat assessment, case management, and emergency management, with a focus on compliance with regulations and standards.

Responsibilities

  • Manage violence prevention and threat management programs.
  • Coordinate and participate in Student Behavioral Intervention Teams (BIT).
  • Monitor employees and individuals of concern and their activities.
  • Assess individuals who may pose a threat to themselves or others.
  • Assist in triaging, investigating, and coordinating assigned threat cases.
  • Ensure stakeholders are aware of risks, best practices, and available options.
  • Review assigned cases, conduct follow-ups, maintain records, and close out active cases.
  • Collaborate with institutional partners to recommend trespasses and develop safety plans.
  • Provide training programs on identifying potential threats and managing behavioral patterns.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in a related field and four years of related professional experience; or a Master's degree with two years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge of threat assessment and case management.
  • Understanding of current laws, statutes, and regulations related to workplace violence and threat assessment.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in emergency preparedness/management.
  • Significant work experience in criminal investigations, law enforcement, or threat assessment.
  • Qualification as an Incident Command System (ICS) instructor and Master Exercise Practitioner (MEP).
