About the position

The Data Center Technician position is a critical role within our client's operations in Chandler, focusing on providing comprehensive on-site support for the data center environment. Technicians will be responsible for a variety of tasks that ensure the smooth functioning of technology equipment, including servers, network devices, and storage systems. This position operates on a 2nd shift schedule, from 7 PM to 7 AM, with a unique work pattern of three days on followed by four days off, and then four days on followed by three days off. This structure allows for a balanced work-life schedule while ensuring that the data center remains operational during critical hours. In this role, technicians will engage in the receiving, inspecting, tracking, installation, configuration, documentation, and troubleshooting of all technology equipment utilized by Expedia. This includes not only physical hardware but also virtual support for the technology infrastructure. Technicians will deploy and configure Windows server operating systems using the Windows Build Server (WDS) and will be tasked with diagnosing and repairing faulty equipment, including components such as CPUs, RAM, and hard drives. Additionally, they will handle network configuration tasks, including setting up network switch ports and IP assignments according to project specifications. The position also involves logistical responsibilities, such as receiving and moving assets from the loading dock to secure storage, as well as escorting and monitoring third-party vendors during equipment repairs and upgrades. Technicians will be expected to maintain accurate records in the corporate asset management system, ensuring that all moves, adds, and changes are documented. Effective communication with customers through email, telephone, and the corporate ticketing system is also a key aspect of this role, ensuring that all support requests are addressed promptly and efficiently.

Responsibilities

  • Provide on-site Data Center Support including receiving, inspecting, tracking, installation, configuration, documentation, and troubleshooting of technology equipment.
  • Deploy and configure Windows server operating systems via Windows Build Server (WDS).
  • Diagnose faulty equipment and perform component replacements (CPU, RAM, HD, etc.).
  • Diagnose and repair various network, software, and operating system configuration issues.
  • Configure network switch ports and IP assignments per project build information.
  • Install and remove server, network, and infrastructure equipment per project build sheets.
  • Receive, unbox, and move assets from building loading dock to secure company storage.
  • Escort and monitor third party vendors performing equipment repairs, upgrades, and changes.
  • Update and maintain corporate asset management system with all moves, adds, and changes.
  • Communicate with customers via email, telephone, and corporate ticketing system.

Requirements

  • 1+ year of experience in a related field.
  • Familiarity with server and network equipment.
  • Experience with Windows server operating systems and configuration.
  • Ability to diagnose and repair hardware and software issues.
  • Strong communication skills for customer interaction.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with SAN storage systems.
  • Knowledge of network patch cabling.
  • Familiarity with backup tape library systems.
