About the position

The Thrift Store Cashier position at The Salvation Army is focused on ensuring the effective and efficient daily operations of the thrift store. This role involves managing the cash register, assisting customers, and maintaining a clean and organized work environment. The cashier will also handle various tasks related to pricing and sorting items, as well as ensuring compliance with the organization's mission and values.

Responsibilities

  • Keep register and counter area clean and neat
  • Assist customers with questions, donations, or general information
  • Complete paperwork associated with the register and deposit money at the end of the shift
  • Clear register and account for all sales upon closing
  • Fill out daily logbook and turn off lights
  • Price bric-a-brac and place items on shelves
  • Sort items and place them in appropriate bins in the hanger room
  • Check drop boxes daily and empty when necessary
  • Keep seasonal items separate and marked for storage
  • Place newer or higher priced clothing on a special table
  • Take out garbage when necessary
  • Clear sorting tables, sweep floor, and clear area of carts and debris at the end of the shift

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED preferred
  • At least two years of retail experience preferred
  • Experience in using a cash register is a plus
  • Ability to speak, write, and understand English for effective communication
