FOX Sports is seeking a Ticker Copy Editor on a full-time basis who will be responsible for writing and editing headlines as well as updating content for FS1, FS2, and FOX Broadcasting Company (FBC). The Ticker Copy Editor will monitor daily scores and news across the entire sports landscape to produce alerts, results, and other game-related information that will appear on FS1, FS2, and FOX. Candidates should possess a deep interest in all sports and a wide breadth of knowledge to inform their news judgment, while also being able to prioritize deadlines amid various day-to-day tasks. The successful employee will demonstrate the ability to make good decisions quickly while proving to be meticulous copy editors and fact checkers. The role involves newsgathering, fact-checking, headline writing, and copy editing under intense minute-by-minute deadline conditions. The Ticker Copy Editor will monitor the sports calendar and live events to ensure that the Ticker presents timely news, scores, and relevant information to viewers. It is essential that all content in the Ticker is well-researched, logically structured, grammatically correct, and adheres to the department's editorial style. The editor will check headlines and text before publishing for any potential legal issues, such as libelous statements or breach of copyright. Additionally, the role includes writing and enabling alerts for breaking news, network programming changes, and other significant sports updates. The Ticker Copy Editor will manage and schedule promotional graphics to appear in the Ticker at designated times throughout the day and week, coordinating with the Marketing department on content, timing, and delivery. Interfacing with the Creative Services, Operations, Graphics, and Digital departments is also a key responsibility to improve the Ticker from a design, operational, and user-experience perspective while helping to conceive new product features. The editor will assist in overseeing freelance employees by maintaining the department's editorial guidelines and procedures while collaborating with the manager and other full-time staff members regularly.
