About the position

This internship provides students the opportunity to join one of our engineering teams where you will have the opportunity to design and develop kernel modules or core features for cloud-native distributed analytical database systems. As an intern, you will conduct research for cutting-edge technology evolvement in the database and data management area, identifying potential future directions that can enhance our systems. You will be tasked with solving unique and complex problems on large-scale, high-performance cloud infrastructure, which will require innovative thinking and technical expertise. Additionally, you will partner with different teams to build backend support for our cloud-native database service, ensuring that our infrastructure is robust and efficient. The internship is designed to provide hands-on experience in a real-world engineering environment, allowing you to apply your academic knowledge to practical challenges. You will work closely with experienced engineers and have the chance to contribute to significant projects that impact the company's technology stack. This role is ideal for students who are passionate about technology and eager to learn from industry professionals while making meaningful contributions to the team.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop kernel modules or core features for cloud-native distributed analytical database systems.
  • Conduct research for cutting-edge technology evolvement in the database and data management area.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a PhD in Computer Science, related STEM or quantitative field.
  • Able to commit to working for 12 weeks during Summer 2024.
  • Experience with at least one system programming language: C++, Java, Rust, etc.
  • Must obtain work authorization in the country of employment at the time of hire, and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Graduating December 2024 onwards with intent to return to degree program after the completion of the internship.
  • Demonstrated software engineering or data processing experience from previous internship, work experience, coding competitions, or publications.
  • Research or deep working experience in databases and data management systems, including but not limited to database kernel, query processing, query optimization, storage system, hardware acceleration, cloud native infrastructure, etc.
  • Experience with open-source and industry databases and data management systems is a plus.
  • High levels of creativity and quick problem-solving capabilities.
