About the position

The Borough of Manhattan Community College (BMCC) is seeking a highly proficient and detail-oriented Time and Leave Supervisor to oversee and manage the time and leave functions within the Human Resources Department. This role is crucial for ensuring accurate and efficient time and leave management for all staff members. The Time and Leave Supervisor will collaborate closely with University Payroll to monitor attendance records, process leave requests, generate reports, and provide guidance on time and leave policies. The ideal candidate will have expertise in Kronos, Excel, and payroll processes, and will be responsible for reviewing and approving timesheets, ensuring compliance with contractual agreements and university policies. In this position, the Supervisor will utilize the Kronos timekeeping system to track staff attendance and work hours, investigate and resolve discrepancies in time and attendance records, and maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant labor laws and regulations. The role also involves processing and tracking various types of leaves, including vacation, sick, personal, and other approved leaves, while assisting employees in understanding leave policies and procedures. Regular and ad-hoc reports related to time and leave management will be generated, and the Supervisor will maintain employee time and leave balances, ensuring data accuracy and confidentiality. Additionally, the Time and Leave Supervisor will conduct orientation and training for new hires and supervisors regarding time and leave policies, providing ongoing support and guidance to employees on time and leave inquiries. This position also includes managing, supervising, training, and evaluating assigned full-time and part-time staff, making it a pivotal role within the HR department.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and manage the time and leave functions within the Human Resources Department.
  • Collaborate with University Payroll to ensure accurate and efficient time and leave management for all staff members.
  • Review and approve timesheets, ensuring accuracy and compliance with contractual agreements and university policies.
  • Utilize Kronos timekeeping system to monitor and track staff attendance and work hours.
  • Investigate and resolve discrepancies in time and attendance records.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant labor laws and regulations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and four years' related experience required.
  • Four years of experience in timekeeping, payroll, accounting or finance preferred.
  • Experience with PeopleSoft HRIS, NYS/NYC payroll and time attendance systems, or similar (e.g., ADP, Kronos, Workday).
  • Ability to analyze and apply time and attendance rules, collective bargaining agreements, and personnel regulations.
  • Knowledge of local, state, federal wage and leave laws (e.g., FLSA, FMLA).
  • Strong proofreading, auditing, and critical analysis skills.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills for handling varied workloads and deadlines.
  • High professional integrity, sound judgment, and confidentiality in sensitive assignments.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and teamwork skills for effective collaboration with diverse stakeholders.
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite, MS Teams, Zoom, SharePoint, Dropbox, and other virtual collaboration tools.
