About the position

The Timekeeper position at the Chicago Police Department involves performing comprehensive timekeeping duties for both sworn and civilian personnel. This role is essential for maintaining accurate time and attendance records, ensuring compliance with various regulations, and providing support to employees regarding timekeeping policies. The position requires proficiency in using Microsoft 365 and the ability to manage large volumes of records efficiently.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain both manual and automated timekeeping records for sworn and civilian employees.
  • Use Microsoft 365 (Excel and Outlook) and proprietary CPD software for daily tasks.
  • Communicate CPD timekeeping policies regarding pay, overtime, and paid time off effectively.
  • Organize and synthesize large volumes of records, forms, and orders.
  • Interpret and apply established timekeeping rules governing employee compensation.
  • Record timekeeping data on Time and Attendance Cards for employees working multiple shifts.
  • Calculate overtime and paid time off accruals under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).
  • Complete monthly overtime reports to calculate personnel costs for overtime worked and other compensations.
  • Maintain timekeeping records and related support documents.
  • Adapt to changes in contracts, technology, laws, and administrative policies.

Requirements

  • Two years of progressively responsible timekeeping or payroll preparation experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Possession of a high school diploma or a General Equivalency Diploma (GED).
  • Previous work experience in a position performing timekeeping and payroll preparation.
  • Knowledge of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
