About the position
The Itinerant Educational Assistant for Early Childhood Special Education (ECSE) will support students with special needs in various preschool and childcare settings. This role involves working under the guidance of teachers and related services staff to assist in the educational and personal care of children, ensuring a safe and engaging learning environment. The position may require substituting for absent educational assistants and involves a flexible schedule across different locations in Clackamas County.
Responsibilities
- Assist in the daily activities of children in preschool or childcare settings.
- Support individual children or small groups in their learning and personal care needs.
- Prepare materials and snacks for classroom activities.
- Help maintain a clean and safe classroom environment.
- Implement fine and gross motor activities as directed by specialists.
- Assist with behavior management using best practices for young children.
- Participate in training to build skills for substituting in classrooms.
- Transport self to various preschool locations as assigned.
- Collect data and write progress notes as directed by teachers or related staff.
Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent preparation.
- Ability to operate technology for student instruction and care.
- Experience working with young children in an early childhood setting.
- Ability to work under the direction of multiple supervisors.
- Willingness to provide personal care needs for students, including diapering and feeding.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Written and oral communication skills sufficient to perform essential functions.
