About the position

This National Guard position is for a TITLE 32 AIRPLANE FLIGHT INSTRUCTOR (MI 110th OG/OSS), Position Description Number NDG2046000 and NDG2044P01 and is part of the MI 127 Wing, Michigan Air National Guard. The primary purpose of this position is to both personally pilot and to instruct others in the piloting of highly advanced military Remotely Piloted Aircraft (RPA). This position requires military membership and involves both combat and non-combat training missions, including Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) and search and rescue missions. The incumbent will perform limited supervisory duties over a small number of RPA pilots and instructor pilots.

Responsibilities

  • Pilots the RPA primarily during both combat and non-combat training missions.
  • Conducts flight testing, maintenance testing, and Operational Test and Evaluation (OT&E) for existing and emerging RPA operating systems.
  • Supports Large Force Exercises (LFE) and performs Continuation Training (CT) duties.
  • Maintains a thorough knowledge of aircraft systems and procedures under normal, instrument, and emergency conditions.
  • Maintains Combat Mission Ready (CMR) status as an RPA pilot.
  • Serves as the Air Operations Officer's (AOO) representative when performing duties as Operations Supervisor (OPSUP), Supervisor of Flying (SOF), or Mission Crew Commander (MCC).
  • Administers combat flight training to military aircrews.
  • Assesses instructors, CMR and BMC pilots, CMR and BMC Sensor Operators (SOs), and Mission Coordinators (MCs).
  • Projects unit training requirements and prepares required training records.
  • Maintains a thorough knowledge of airplane systems and procedures under normal, instrument, and emergency conditions.

Requirements

  • AIR NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP REQUIRED.
  • Must have a valid civilian driver's license.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance.
  • Must have a completed and current medical physical, flight physical, and medical profile.
  • Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation.

Nice-to-haves

  • Graduate Degree from an accredited civilian academic college or from an equivalent professional military education school.
  • Federal Aviation Administration certifications awarded from accredited civilian aviation programs or military aviation schools.
