About the position

As a Title Insurance Underwriter at First American, you will play a crucial role in providing underwriting support and expertise to our company personnel, agents, and customers regarding the issuance of real estate title insurance commitments and policies. This position requires a strong understanding of the fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures involved in the real estate title and settlement process. You will utilize established underwriting standards and guidelines within your delegated authority limits to underwrite the issuance of title insurance and provide guidance in the performance of real estate settlement services. Your expertise will be essential in ensuring compliance with Federal and State regulations related to real estate title insurance and settlement services. In this role, you will be responsible for issuing underwriting standards and guidelines in accordance with established company processes. You will collaborate with various stakeholders, acting decisively to provide counsel and authorization related to title insurance commitments and policies. Your attention to detail and strong organizational skills will enable you to manage multiple tasks effectively, prioritize your workload, and follow up in a timely manner. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, are essential as you will be interacting with a diverse range of individuals, including company personnel and external agents. The ideal candidate will possess strong negotiation skills and the ability to think abstractly, providing creative solutions to complex problems. With 5-7 years of title underwriting experience and familiarity with real estate law, you will be well-equipped to navigate the challenges of this position and contribute to the success of our team.

Responsibilities

  • Provides underwriting support, counsel, and authorization to company personnel, agents, and customers related to the issuance of real estate title insurance commitments and policies.
  • Utilizes underwriting standards and guidelines within delegated authority limits to underwrite the issuance of title insurance.
  • Provides guidance to company personnel in the performance of real estate settlement services.
  • Issues underwriting standards and guidelines in accordance with established company processes.

Requirements

  • Strong understanding of fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures of real estate title and settlement process.
  • General knowledge of Federal and State regulations related to real estate title insurance and settlement services.
  • General understanding of underwriting real estate transactions for the issuance of title insurance policies.
  • Ability to collaborate and act decisively.
  • Detail oriented.
  • Excellent listening, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Good organizational skills with the ability to multi-task, prioritize, and timely follow up.
  • Strong negotiation skills.
  • Requires abstract thinking and creative solutions.
  • High School Diploma Required.
  • 5-7 years title underwriting experience.
  • Must be familiar with real estate law.
