About the position

At FCS Financial, part of the Farm Credit System and the largest lending cooperative in the United States, we are seeking a dedicated Paralegal to join our esteemed team. This position plays a crucial role in supporting our internal legal counsel, title services, loan services, and marketplace by managing real estate transactions. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing and reviewing legal documents, ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations, and addressing inquiries related to title work and loan documentation. As a Paralegal at FCS Financial, you will be integral to our legal operations, ensuring that all real estate transactions are handled efficiently and in compliance with legal standards. Your contributions will directly impact our ability to serve our clients effectively and uphold the integrity of our operations.

Responsibilities

  • Participates in the review, preparation, and coordination of closing documents and assists in resolving any title issues that arise.
  • Conducts research related to real estate transactions, including ownership, land use, access, legal descriptions, liens, title exceptions, and related matters.
  • Follows up to clarify issues, inconsistencies, and missing information relating to customers and loans.
  • Fields questions from staff regarding title work and legal documents.
  • Ensures compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements related to real estate transactions and company policies.
  • Reviews real estate documents, including purchase and sale agreements, leases, deeds, title exception documents, and closing documents.
  • Prepares various documents including deeds, deeds of trust, subordination agreements, entity authorizations, and other closing documents under the supervision of counsel.
  • Reviews various real estate transactional documents for accuracy and adherence to regulations and Association policies and procedures.
  • Enters information into applicable databases to ensure proper record-keeping is maintained.
  • Generates documents using applicable software.
  • Provides other support to General Counsel and Associate General Counsel as needed.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree in paralegal studies; Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Paralegal Certification.
  • 3 years of related experience as a real estate paralegal or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to perform the essential functions of the job.
  • Working knowledge of real estate law and transactions.
  • Working knowledge of title insurance and closing processes.
  • Proficiency in legal research tools and databases (e.g., Westlaw, LexisNexis).
  • Strong problem-solving, decision-making, and organizational skills.
  • Skill in prioritizing assignments to complete work in a timely manner.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Effective communication skills to discuss a variety of job-related topics and to communicate complex issues.
  • Skill in utilizing Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Ability to process complex, detailed information accurately and thoroughly.
  • Skill in collaborating with colleagues and working as part of a team.
  • Verbal and written communication skills sufficient to exchange information effectively with peers, supervisors, and customers.
  • Skill in organizing material and information systematically to optimize efficiency.
  • Ability to apply processes and procedures to factual data to make logical decisions.
  • Responsible for protecting the confidentiality, security, and integrity of the Association's systems and data and clients' data.
