About the position

The Human Resources Specialist IV - HR Classification/Compensation Analyst position at the Texas Juvenile Justice Department involves performing senior-level human resources management work. The role focuses on coordinating and administering HR programs related to classification, compensation, and compliance with state and federal laws. The specialist will work under limited supervision, ensuring accurate data management within HR systems and providing consultation on HR policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate and administer HR programs such as classification, FLSA, career ladders/paths, position management, and compensation.
• Enter, maintain, and audit data within HR automated systems; review personnel action requests for accuracy.
• Review and correct HR-related forms, correspondence, reports, records, and files; update employment records related to hiring, transfer, promotion, and separation.
• Provide consultation to management or staff on HR issues and recommend solutions to problems.
• Monitor and ensure compliance with state and federal laws and regulations and TJJD policies and procedures.
• Review and recommend changes to HR policies and procedures; implement HR policies, procedures, and forms.
• Report any presence or perception of racial, ethnic, and/or gender disparities.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree.
• Two years of full-time wage-earning human resources experience or general office experience that included human resources related functions.

Nice-to-haves

• Bachelor's degree in human resources, business, or a closely related field.
• Experience using the Centralized Accounting/Payroll and Personnel System (CAPPS) HR or PeopleSoft.
• Experience using Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Excel, Word).
• Experience using PivotTables and Formulas such as VLOOKUP.
• Experience in using a relational database system.
