The Juvenile Correctional Officer III/IV/V position at the Texas Juvenile Justice Department involves providing direct supervision and care for youth in a community-based halfway house facility. Responsibilities

  • Provide direct supervision and care for youth in a halfway house facility.
  • Ensure the safety and security of youth, staff, and the public.
  • Facilitate youth rehabilitation and personal development according to individualized treatment plans.
  • Maintain facility cleanliness, sanitation, and youth hygiene.
  • Monitor compliance with policies and procedures and complete required documentation.
  • Engage in competency-based training and hold youth accountable for their behavior.
  • Implement and monitor youth activities and programs to ensure healthy engagement.
  • Conduct searches for contraband and health/safety hazards.
  • Manage movements between activities and conduct periodic headcounts.
  • Maintain security in the facility and intervene during emergencies.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; college degree or coursework preferred.
  • Experience supervising or providing rehabilitation/treatment services to youth or adults in a treatment program, correctional program, or residential setting.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of safety and security procedures and practices.
  • Knowledge of general counseling and guidance techniques with adolescents.
  • Knowledge of child development and the role of the family.
