About the position

The Toddler Assistant Teacher is responsible for providing childcare in toddler programs, planning activities, and assisting the lead teacher in various tasks. The role focuses on ensuring the safety and welfare of children while creating a positive and respectful environment. The assistant will follow a developmentally appropriate curriculum and maintain communication with families and staff.

Responsibilities

• Ensure the safety and welfare of children, protecting them from physical or emotional harm.
• Provide a positive experience for all children, families, and staff members.
• Prepare and follow a curriculum based on developmentally appropriate practices.
• Supervise and interact with children during mealtimes, rest periods, diapering, playtimes, and activities.
• Provide care for young children, including diaper changes, feeding, and comforting.
• Maintain observation records and required classroom logs accurately.
• Know and implement health and emergency policies as necessary.
• Assist with general housekeeping tasks.
• Show initiative in improving early childhood education and participate in training.
• Maintain professional communication with staff, children, and families.
• Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Associates Degree or higher in Early Childhood Education or CDA accepted.
• CPR Certification required within 2 months of hire.
• Must pass a pre-employment criminal background check.
• Ability to understand and follow specific instructions and procedures.
• Effective communication skills, both orally and in writing.
• Knowledge of children's cognitive and social skills development methods.
• Knowledge of play, reading, and quiet-time activities for children.
• Child supervision skills.
• Ability to provide basic nutrition and hygiene services for infants and young children.
