About the position

The Assistant General Manager at Tomboy Tavern plays a crucial role in overseeing the front-of-house operations during food service and in the absence of the General Manager. This position requires a strong focus on customer service, ensuring that patrons receive fast and courteous service. The Assistant General Manager will liaise with the Chef and kitchen staff to maintain a smooth and efficient food service experience. The role involves training and directing cashiers and servers in the operation of the Point of Sale (POS) system, managing cash banks, and ensuring accountability for sales transactions. Additionally, the Assistant General Manager is responsible for maintaining sanitation standards and supervising the cleaning and maintenance of dining areas and public spaces, including entryways and bathrooms. In this position, the Assistant General Manager will also be responsible for ensuring that dining and service areas are properly set up before service and cleaned at the end of the day. They will greet guests, handle complaints, and coordinate the activities of dining room personnel to ensure prompt service. The role includes inspecting service stations for cleanliness, requisitioning supplies, and assisting in training dining room employees. The Assistant General Manager is expected to provide a guest experience that exceeds expectations while supporting the company's sustainability initiatives and adhering to policies and procedures. This position requires a proactive approach to managing staff, as the Assistant General Manager will assist in supervising up to 15 employees, including scheduling, training, and performance appraisals. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in food service management and a commitment to delivering exceptional customer service.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises all front house personnel during food service and in the Manager's absence.
  • Liaises with Chef and kitchen staff to ensure smooth and efficient food service.
  • Maintains a high level of customer service and engages with patrons to ensure satisfaction.
  • Handles all monetary transactions and ensures safe balances daily.
  • Trains and directs cashiers/servers in POS operation and processing orders.
  • Assigns and dispenses cash banks, ensuring staff accountability for cash transactions.
  • Responsible for POS function, including updates, maintenance, and report generation.
  • Ensures adherence to sanitation requirements.
  • Manages daily front of house operations and supervises cleaning and maintenance of dining areas.
  • Supervises safe snow removal and application of snow and ice mitigation materials.
  • Ensures dining and service areas are set up properly and cleaned for the next day.
  • Greets guests and explains food ordering processes as needed.
  • Handles and resolves guest complaints and issues.
  • Assigns work tasks and coordinates dining room personnel activities.
  • Inspects dining room service stations for cleanliness and requisitions supplies as needed.
  • Assists in training dining room employees and provides exceptional guest experiences.

Requirements

  • Must have six months to one year of related experience.
  • Fluency in English; ability to read, write, and speak clearly and effectively.
  • Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Mathematical skills to perform basic calculations and handle financial transactions.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions in various forms.
  • Competence in using Excel and Word Processing software, and knowledge of POS systems.
  • Must have and maintain current certification for Alcohol Service.
  • Ability to work weekends, holidays, and nights as required.
  • For mid-mountain locations, must ski or snowboard at an intermediate level.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of Spanish is a plus.
  • Thorough understanding of all front of the house equipment.
