About the position

The Tool & Die Builder position at D&W Fine Pack involves performing preventative maintenance, diagnosing repairs, and creating new parts using various machining equipment. The role requires precision in measuring and maintaining tool room assets while adhering to safety and quality standards. The position is integral to supporting the company's food safety efforts and ensuring a well-organized work environment.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventative die maintenance in a timely manner.
• Diagnose and complete needed repairs to existing dies.
• Make new parts, grind, mill, lathe, read work orders and die repair sheets.
• Operate manual machining equipment including saws, mills, and lathes.
• Measure dimensions of finished work pieces to ensure conformance to specifications using precision measuring instruments.
• Track and inventory tool room assets including cutters, raw materials, and other tooling components.
• Maintain an organized work area.
• Support company food safety efforts through compliance with SQF standard practices and policies.
• Assist other workers with specific chores as requested by the Tool Room Manager.
• Follow plant quality practices including Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs).
• Adhere to plant safety procedures and guidelines.
• Know emergency procedures for power outages, machine failures, and workplace injuries.
• Utilize personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
• Understand and identify Lock-out/Tag-Out procedures.
• Inform supervisor of safety issues and report any workplace injury or incident immediately.

Requirements

• High School Education required.
• 2+ years experience in hands-on machine shop operations.
• Demonstrates general problem-solving skills.
• Solid communication skills, both written and verbal.
• General mechanical experience including the ability to work with manual tool room equipment and hand tools.
• Ability to stand and lift up to 50 pounds on a regular basis.
• High visual demand and attention to detail.
• Ability to work overtime as required by business conditions.
