About the position
The position involves designing, building, and repairing various tools and fixtures used in metalworking. The role requires analyzing specifications, operating machine tools, and fabricating and repairing dies and cutting tools. The technician will also provide guidance to apprentices and lower-level employees, ensuring high-quality standards in the manufacturing process.
Responsibilities
- Design and build a variety of tools, jigs, and fixtures.
- Analyze specifications and lay out metal stock for machining.
- Set up and operate a wide variety of exact tolerance machine tools.
- Fit and assemble parts to fabricate and repair metalworking dies and cutting tools.
- Modify dies to conform to engineering changes.
- Troubleshoot equipment and perform complex repairs.
- Provide assistance and guidance to apprentices and lower-level employees.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 3-5 years of related experience in metalworking.
- Expert knowledge of disassembling units and troubleshooting problems.
- Ability to select appropriate materials for specific purposes.
- Proficient in reading and interpreting blueprints and diagrams.
- Experience in setting up and operating manual or CNC machine tools to exacting tolerances.
- Ability to diagnose complex progressive, forming, and stamping dies.
- Strong mathematical and analytical abilities.
- Ability to lift at least 50 pounds.
Nice-to-haves
- Two-year degree or equivalent in a related field.
