About the position

The Tooling Engineer is responsible for the sourcing, design, construction, and launch of new tools, fixtures, and equipment for various programs. This role involves providing technical support for product development, coordinating engineering changes, and ensuring compliance with industry standards. The Tooling Engineer will also work closely with production and quality teams to implement effective processes and improve cost-effectiveness.

Responsibilities

  • Provide input and direction in the sourcing, design, construction, PPAP and Launch of new tools, fixtures and equipment.
  • Assist Tool-Room personnel and/or vendors in solving problems arising from production processes, tool tryouts and launching of new programs.
  • Estimate, schedule and execute all engineering changes of tooling, cost savings, etc.
  • Coordinate changes with Program Management, Manufacturing, Quality, and Finance departments to meet production schedules.
  • Provide technical support for product development and design.
  • Use technology on new and current processes and tools to meet or exceed customer specifications.
  • Stay informed of latest technologies with respect to tooling and implement beneficial ideas.
  • Establish new sourcing methods for tooling to improve cost-effectiveness.
  • Assist Program Managers in preparing internal quotes for new/existing programs and engineering changes.
  • Work with production to implement Poka Yoke methods.
  • Work with Quality Engineer to establish characteristics and achievable tolerances for SPC.
  • Comply with IATF Standards and legislative requirements of OHSA.
  • Report any product or process non-conformance immediately.
  • Maintain due diligence regarding environmental matters and comply with ISO 14001.

Requirements

  • Experience as a tool and die maker or apprenticeship certification.
  • Two years of experience as a tool room supervisor.
  • Five years of previous experience as a Tooling Engineer.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering or equivalent experience preferred.
  • Ability to interact with all levels of employees, customers, suppliers, and engineers.
  • Strong negotiation skills.
  • Excellent knowledge of assembly and press department equipment.
  • Proficient in computer skills including spreadsheets, word processing, CAD, CMM, design, and databases.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
