About the position

The Tooling Technician position involves maintaining high-quality tooling through preventative maintenance, minor repairs, and visual evaluations in a plastics injection molding environment. The role requires a team player who can read and understand tooling drawings, disassemble and assemble molds safely and efficiently, and assist in maintaining a clean and organized work area. The technician will utilize various measuring equipment and work closely with Process Engineers to troubleshoot and improve tooling processes.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain high-quality tooling through preventative maintenance and minor repairs.
  • Read and understand tooling drawings and follow instructions accurately.
  • Disassemble and assemble molds in a safe and timely manner.
  • Clean molds and assist Maintenance Technicians as needed.
  • Work to a schedule and meet deadlines in a timely manner.
  • Maintain a clean and well-organized work area.
  • Utilize measuring equipment including micrometers, calipers, and height gauges.
  • Assist in monitoring component inventory to reduce machine downtime.
  • Maintain all tools and equipment used, including daily cleaning of tool room machinery.
  • Troubleshoot issues and perform repairs as necessary.
  • Operate a Bridgeport/Lathe and Surface grinder within specified tolerances.
  • Assist in maintaining maintenance records on the company computer system.
  • Work on the production floor with tools to correct issues and minimize downtime.

Requirements

  • 5 to 8 years of hands-on experience in a tool room involving plastic injection mold repair or maintenance.
  • 3 to 5 years of experience using hand-operated tool room equipment.
  • Knowledge and understanding of mold and die components and their characteristics.
  • Ability to read and understand tooling drawings.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.

Nice-to-haves

  • Prototype Tool making experience.
  • Injection Molding process experience.
  • Toolmaker/Mold Maker Journeyman certification preferred.
  • Trade School or College education.
