About the position

The Tourism Event Coordinator will oversee the planning and execution of community events for the Charles County Government, working under the Chief of Tourism & Special Events. This role involves managing event logistics, budget, vendor communication, and community engagement to enhance tourism in the region. The coordinator will also assist with research projects and marketing initiatives to promote events effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the execution and coordination of community events, including large single-day and multi-day signature events.
  • Manage all event requirements such as budget, contractual agreements, and logistics.
  • Recruit volunteers and vendors for events and handle county permits and sponsorships.
  • Contribute to the division database of food truck businesses, vendors, and bands.
  • Support the division's mission to grow tourism in the county and region.
  • Partner with various agencies to expand sports tourism initiatives.
  • Prepare fiscal and economic impact analyses of signature multi-day events.
  • Generate advertisements and social media content to promote events to target audiences.
  • Research industry trends and best practices for event success.
  • Represent the department at regional meetings and conferences.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Hospitality, Tourism, Education, Program or Event Planning, or related field, or 2+ years of experience in the tourism and event industry.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Ability to work unconventional hours and in various environments for tourism-related events.
