About the position

The Tourism Specialist is responsible for the development, implementation, and successful execution of plans and programs aimed at promoting and supporting the growth of the tourism industry in Walker County, Georgia. This role involves acting as a community ambassador, managing a media budget, collaborating with various stakeholders, and performing additional duties as assigned to enhance tourism in the area.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage a budget and annual marketing plan targeting key market segments for Walker Rocks.
  • Monitor trends in visitor spending and adjust the marketing plan and budget accordingly.
  • Coordinate with the accounting department to complete the Project Contractor Information Schedule (PCIS) at the end of each fiscal year.
  • Manage the standalone McLemore/Cloudland Resort account.
  • Work with area attractions, hotels, and event planners to develop marketing ideas and partnerships.
  • Identify opportunities for new events and support area venues and event organizers.
  • Write press releases and act as the media and public relations contact for Walker Rocks.
  • Represent the Walker Rocks brand at various events and activities.
  • Manage the Walker Rocks website and ensure the accuracy of information.
  • Collaborate with social media specialists on a social media plan and newsletters.
  • Develop and distribute visitor publications and maintain communication with visitors.
  • Work with Economic Development to increase visitor traffic and marketing activities.
  • Communicate with city leaders about events and budget, presenting the annual tourism budget.
  • Collaborate with cities within Walker County on tourism-related events or projects.
  • Ensure consistent marketing of Walker Rocks events to the appropriate audience.
  • Participate in industry organizations and represent Walker County at seminars and conferences.
  • Host visiting film scouts and prepare arrangements for bus groups.
  • Gather data and prepare annual tourism analysis for the County's Tourism Committee.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience.
  • 3-5 years of experience in public relations, marketing, strategic planning, and management.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of working with government agencies and tourism boards.
  • Experience supervising budgets and projects.
  • Experience developing marketing campaigns and partnerships.
