About the position

The Natural Resources Specialist I-II-III (District Wildlife Biologist) position at the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department involves professional planning and implementation of natural resource management, monitoring, and research duties related to wildlife and habitat resources in Karnes and Wilson counties. The role includes providing technical assistance, developing wildlife management plans, conducting public outreach, and preparing reports and educational materials. The position requires collaboration with private landowners and organizations to support TPWD programs and enhance wildlife conservation efforts.

Responsibilities

  • Perform professional planning and implementation of natural resource management and research duties.
  • Provide technical assistance and public outreach programs to various stakeholders.
  • Develop comprehensive wildlife management plans for private landowners upon request.
  • Disseminate information through news releases, interviews, and presentations.
  • Prepare technical reports, popular articles, and professional journal publications.
  • Manage public relations and educational efforts to involve citizens in TPWD programs.
  • Identify public hunting and non-consumptive use opportunities on lands.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Wildlife Science, Wildlife Management, Wildlife Ecology, Range and Wildlife Management, or closely related field.
  • Minimum of 24 hours in Wildlife/Habitat Conservation, Wildlife/Natural Resources Management, Wildlife Biology, and/or Research Methods.
  • For NRS II: Two years of relevant experience.
  • For NRS III: Six years of relevant experience.
  • Valid 'Class C' Texas driver's license within 30 days of employment.
  • National Wildfire Coordinating Group's (NWCG) Fire Fighter Type II certification within one year of employment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with native warm season grass restoration.
  • Experience with grazing regimes for domestic livestock.
  • Experience working with rural landowners.
  • Experience with upland game birds and big game management.
  • Experience with nongame, threatened, and/or endangered species.
  • Experience with waterfowl and other migratory game birds.
  • Current NWCG Fire Fighter Type II certification.
